Electronic Certificates

Secure your digital identity: authenticate, sign, and give full legal validity to your electronic transactions.

What are they?

A qualified electronic certificate, or digital certificate, is an electronic file issued by a Qualified Trust Service Provider (such as ANF AC) that is uniquely linked to a person or entity, ensuring their identity. Also known as a ‘digital passport,’ it enables electronic identification, document signing, and file encryption. It is the essential tool for automating legal and administrative procedures and streamlining access to personal information in any electronic environment.

Solve all your questions

With an electronic certificate issued by the ANF Certification Authority, you can:
Authenticate yourself on electronic platforms, reliably and securely proving your identity over the Internet.
Sign documents electronically.

An electronic signature is a set of electronic data attached to or associated with an electronic document, whose main functions are:
● Unambiguous identification of the signer.
● Ensuring the integrity of the signed document, guaranteeing that it is identical to the original and has not been altered or tampered with.
● Ensuring non-repudiation of the signed document, since the data used to generate the signature are unique and exclusive to the signer, who therefore cannot later deny having signed the document.

The legal basis of the electronic signature is established in Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014 and Law 59/2003 on Electronic Signatures.

Yes. The ANF Certification Authority is a Qualified Trust Service Provider included in the “List of Trusted Certification Service Providers.” With an ANF AC certificate, you can authenticate yourself on the official websites of any Public Administration.

Electronic certificates issued by ANF AC are valid for 2 years, with the option to renew for an additional 2 years before the expiration date. Only one renewal is allowed.

As many as you want or need.

No, and it is very important that applicants know how to distinguish between the different types of certificates. Do not be misled by terms that do not reflect the true legal and technical nature of these instruments.

Currently, the following types of qualified certificates exist:

  1. Qualified electronic signature certificate: Issued to a natural person, who may act on their own behalf or as the legal representative of a third party.
  1. Qualified electronic seal certificate: Issued to a legal entity. This type of certificate is used to create electronic seals generated in high-availability automated systems. It allows documents to be authenticated without human intervention.
  1. Qualified secure server certificate: A technical certificate requested by a legal entity that includes one or more DNS addresses. Website authentication certificates are used to uniquely identify a site and ensure secure communication between computer systems, enabling SSL or TLS secure connections.

The QTSP (Qualified Trust Service Provider) that issues a certificate is obligated to provide validation services. You can verify certificates through online OCSP responders.
ANF AC is one of the few QTSPs qualified to issue official validation reports for certificates, signatures, and electronic seals.

Of course! Certificates issued by the ANF Certification Authority are interoperable and valid for use with any Public Administration in Spain and across the European Union.

The Public Administration is vast, and sometimes collaboration is needed from all sides!

Electronic certificates can be issued and used by their owner in different formats.

Electronic Formats:
Software format: “Key Distribution” via a PFX file, stored by the user on their PC.
Centralized certificates: Certificates hosted on ANF AC servers, using high-security equipment. Only the owner can access them, and they can be used from anywhere with an internet connection.

Physical Formats:
● Cryptographic USB.
● Cryptographic cards.

ANF AC is one of the few QTSPs qualified to issue official validation reports for certificates, electronic signatures, and electronic seals.
ANF AC also provides APIs, multi-validation servers, and desktop solutions to validate electronic signatures.
