What is a Time Stamp?
A Qualified Timestamp is a trusted time mark that certifies the exact date and time of data. Its use ensures proof that certain information exists, or has existed, at a specific moment in time.
A qualified timestamp guarantees the ability to detect any alteration of the document. In other words, while it does not prevent modifications, it provides certainty as to whether the content has been changed.
What is it for?
Since they make it possible to prove existence at a specific moment in time, qualified timestamps are used to generate legal evidence, record the date and time of banking transactions, mark invoice issuance dates, and validate the timing of receipts or security events in IT systems.
They are also used to enhance the legal effectiveness of electronic signatures by reliably verifying the exact moment the signature was made, as well as the existence of the document and the status of the electronic certificate at that time. Such signatures are known as Advanced Electronic Signatures with Long-Term Validation (AdES LT/LTA).
Why should I use the Time Stamps?
Impossibility of Tampering
ANF AC’s Time-Stamping service uses blockchain chaining, and the general record of hash chaining is officially certified through notarial intervention.
Regulatory compliance
Accredited and qualified, ANF AC is subject to annual audits by eIDAS CAB auditors, in full compliance with the requirements of the European eIDAS Regulation 910/2014.
Maximum legal guarantees
Qualified time-stamping is the only form that carries full legal effect, with the presumption of accuracy and direct admissibility as evidence in litigation.
Immediate integration
Seamlessly integrates into any workflow, process, or commercial software. Integration is extremely simple and can be done via direct URL without requiring technical expertise. It is also available through API, fully compliant with RFC 3161.
Manufacturer Conditions
As both manufacturer and Time-Stamping Authority, we adapt to the specific needs of any organization.
Scalability and High Availability
The service is fully scalable, offering our clients high availability along with the highest standards of security and contingency.

Who can generate them?
For timestamps to have legal validity and be deemed reliable, they must be issued by a Qualified Trust Service Provider accredited under eIDAS, such as ANF AC. The Qualified Service must be recognized and listed in the trusted lists published by the EU and by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation of the Government of Spain.
How does
our service?
Coordinated Universal Time
In Spain, Time Stamping Units (TSUs) are synchronized with the Royal Navy Observatory (ROA), which is responsible for maintaining the basic unit of time, officially recognized as the National Standard for legal purposes. The ROA also maintains and disseminates the official time scale, ‘Coordinated Universal Time’ (UTC(ROA)).
Blockchain and Unique Transaction
All timestamps issued by ANF AC are unique. This allows both the user and third parties to verify their existence and the impossibility of tampering with the electronic timestamp generated by the TSA. To ensure this guarantee, among other technologies, blockchain is used to verify:
- The existence of the TSP hash within the chaining process
- The correct correspondence of the stamped date and time in relation to the chronology of the set of TSTs issued by the TSU in question

Solve all your questions
1. How is the Time-Stamping Service accessed?
The Time-Stamping Service can be used through the URL provided by ANF AC. Users can integrate the service into their systems via APIs or use it directly within signature and document management processes.
2. What standards does the Time-Stamping Service follow?
The service complies with European regulations, including eIDAS, as well as other international standards that require certified timestamps on electronic documents to ensure their integrity and legal validity.
3. Can I use the Time-Stamping Service on any type of document?
Yes. The Time-Stamping Service can be applied to any type of digital document, including contracts, emails, files, audit logs, electronic invoices, and more. It is especially valuable wherever document integrity and dating are critical.
4. What happens if a document is modified after a timestamp is applied?
If a document is altered after a timestamp has been applied, the modification will be detected because the seal will no longer match the document’s content. This invalidates the original timestamp, protecting against unauthorized tampering.
5. How long is a timestamp valid?
A timestamp remains valid indefinitely, as long as the document is not modified. However, its legal value may depend on the regulations applicable in each jurisdiction. Generally, timestamps are considered robust evidence in audits and legal proceedings.
