What is an electronic certificate used for?
- Authenticate yourself on electronic government platforms, securely and reliably verifying your identity online.
- Create electronic signatures with full legal effect.
What is an electronic signature?
- Identifying the signer uniquely and unequivocally.
- Ensuring document integrity, guaranteeing that the signed document is exactly the same as the original and has not been altered or tampered with.
- Providing non-repudiation, meaning the signer cannot later deny having signed the document, since the signing data are unique and under their exclusive control.

How many certificates can I have in my name?
Are all certificates the same?
- Qualified Electronic Signature Certificate Issued to a natural person, either acting on their own behalf or as a legal representative of another entity.
- Qualified Electronic Seal Certificate Issued to a legal person (company or organization). This certificate allows the creation of electronic seals used in automated, high-availability systems to authenticate documents issued unattended.
- Qualified Website Authentication Certificate (QWAC) A technical certificate requested by a legal person and linked to one or more DNS addresses. It authenticates the website and enables secure SSL/TLS communication between IT systems.
How can I verify whether a qualified certificate is genuine, valid, or revoked?
The Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) that issued the certificate must provide certificate validation services.
You can check the status online using OCSP responders (Online Certificate Status Protocol).
ANF AC is one of the few QTSPs qualified to issue Qualified Validation Reports for certificates, electronic signatures, and electronic seals.
Can I use my certificate with all Public Administrations?
Absolutely. Certificates issued by ANF Autoridad de Certificación are interoperable and valid with any Public Administration in Spain and throughout the European Union.
