PSD2 QWAC Certificate

for Verification of Payee (VoP)

Are you a bank or Payment Service Provider (PSP) in the EU/EEA?

Starting 9 October 2025, the European Instant Payments Regulation (IPR) requires the implementation of Verification of Payee (VoP) for all SEPA and SEPA Instant transfers.

What is VoP?

Verification of Payee (VoP) is a security mechanism that checks whether the beneficiary’s name matches the IBAN before executing a payment. This prevents fraud and reduces misdirected transfers.

The payer will receive one of the following results:

Match

The name and IBAN match

Close Match

Minor discrepancies, but data is consistent

No Match

No correspondence between name and IBAN

Other

Technical error in the verification
Why You Need a QWAC

To ensure secure communications between banks and PSPs within the VoP framework, a QWAC (Qualified Website Authentication Certificate) is mandatory.

This certificate:

Authenticates your domain’s identity in a qualified way to other PSPs

Enables the required TLS encryption for VoP connections

Ensures compliance with eIDAS, PSD2, and IPR.

Mitigates regulatory non-compliance risks that could block your SEPA and instant payments
